Bilateral Memorandum of Cooperation between the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey and the Supreme Tribunal of Justice of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

A bilateral memorandum of cooperation has been signed between the Turkish Constitutional Court and the Venezuelan Supreme Tribunal of Justice.

Mr. Maikel Jose Moreno Perez, President of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) of Venezuela, and the accompanying delegation paid a work visit to the Turkish Constitutional Court on 10th of May, 2018.

Mr. Zühtü Arslan, President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, received President Mr. Perez and the accompanying delegation in his office. Deputy President of the Constitutional Court Mr. Engin Yıldırım and President of the Court of Jurisdictional Disputes Mr. Nuri Necipoğlu also attended the meeting.

Mutually confirming the continuously developing relationship of trust and respect between Turkey and Venezuela also in the judicial sphere, the parties exchanged information about the judicial system of both countries at the meeting.

Number of the countries with which the Turkish Constitutional Court signed a memorandum has reached to twenty-five

Mr. Arslan noted that Venezuela is the second Latin American country, after the Republic of Chile, with which the Turkish Constitutional Court has signed a memorandum of cooperation. He also stated that with this memorandum which would further strengthen the relations between the supreme courts of these two countries, the number of the countries with which the Turkish Constitutional Court signed a memorandum has already reached to twenty-five. 

President Mr. Perez stated that the negotiations as well as the bilateral memorandum of cooperation would strengthen the relationships between Turkey and Venezuela. Expressing his belief that the friendship between two countries would be sealed with this memorandum, Mr. Perez added that they wish to benefit from the experiences of the Turkish Constitutional Court.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Arslan hosted a lunch in honour of Mr. Perez and his accompanying delegation.

Following the lunch, a bilateral memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey and the Supreme Tribunal of Justice of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

With this memorandum, a framework has been introduced in order to enable the both courts to interact, make cooperation and share experience in the area of constitutional justice. With this memorandum, both parties aim at improving and strengthening the cooperation by way of joint conferences and seminars, besides exchanging and sharing the legal instruments in the area of constitutional jurisdiction, in accordance with this memorandum and their national legislations.
