Visit by the Delegation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey to Macedonia

President of the Turkish Constitutional Court Mr. Zühtü Arslan and the accompanying delegation paid a visit to Macedonia.

During the visit held upon the invitation of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Arslan was accompanied by Justices Mr. Recep Kömürcü, Mr. Hasan Tahsin Gökcan and Rapporteur Mrs. Şermin Birtane.

Within the scope of their contacts within Macedonia, Mr. Arslan and the accompanying delegation paid a visit to the International Balkan University located in the country’s capital, Skopje.

President Arslan convened the academicians and students at the university where he answered the journalists’ questions. Indicating that they were in Skopje upon the invitation of the Constitutional Court of Macedonia, Mr. Arslan noted that they had held very fruitful meetings. Touching upon the exchange of experience and information between the constitutional courts of these two countries, he noted that their visit would further enhance their deep-rooted relations.

Ambassador of Turkey to Skopje Mrs. Tülin Erkal Kara stated that they felt honoured that President Mr. Arslan would deliver his first lecture at the International Balkan University. Member of the Constitutional Court of Macedonia, Mr. Sali Murati, mentioned of the high-level relations between the institutions of two countries and expressed his gratitude for hosting the members of the Constitutional Court of Turkey, their friendly and brother country.

The President delivered a lecture on the topic “Constitutional Justice in Turkey: Past, Present and Future”. In his speech, he gave information about the Turkish Constitutional Court and its functioning as well as mentioned of the coup attempt of 15 July 2016 by the Fetullahist Terrorist Organization. In this respect, Mr. Arslan expressed how the Turkish people valiantly resisted this attack and protected democracy. Indicating that the Turkish Constitutional Court clearly displayed its attitude towards the coup attempt, he recalled that, along with the Turkish nation, the Constitutional Court stood out against every anti-democratic attempt.

During the visit, President Arslan convened President of Macedonia Mr. Gjorge Ivanov and President of the Constitutional Court of Macedonia Mr. Nikola Ivanovski.
